Finally found a Minolta AF-C

For a decent price.. I didn't want to blow big $$ on one of these and the few out there at 'normal' prices seemed trashed. But one night this just came out, with blurry pics showing it and all, so I low bid offered, it was accepted, and here it is!



If the seller posted sharp, nicely exposed pics he could have got a lot more!
Anyway, this was a relatively unknown Olympus XA rival, but styled in the Lomo/Cosina way.
Has AF and a 6 element 35mm 2.8 lens. Which is pretty unusual in this class, so hopefully this is another wonderful Minolta lens. (they aren't all great, the 35mm 4.5 in my Prod20 S is pretty crappy..)

I used to own one. Paid 2€ 🙂 I really love this camera and the IQ it produces. The only issue is that when batteries start to drain it does not stop shooting immediately, but starts underexposing which annoyed me somewhat. So make sure you always have fresh batteries loaded.

A problem seems to be the inside of the af sensor glass and vf is hazy. It is one piece. This seems to prevent it from focusing consistently. I will see if I can open that to clean it.

And Valdas, I hate people like you who find these things for a nickel! Never have that kind of luck.

Finally found a Minolta AF-C

Got mine locally for $10CDN which is close to a nickel in USD.

Sharp, quiet internal focusing mechanism, sliding cover. 80s feel.
What is not to like?
No battery check.

The glass on lens and VF are clear. I bought it locally several years ago on CL. It came with original case but it was so filthy and worn I threw it out.

Nice. My lens is clear, it is the glass covering the VF and af lenses that is hazy.

So here's the thing. The shop called me and said they werent going to touch it as it is working. They just replaced the light seals. When I picked it up, yep working now! So I'm thinking it just needed the fresh batteries to sit in it for a while to charge up the capacitirs as it hadnt been used in years. Well, it's a theory!
Just shot a roll through it and boy is it fun to use. Hope the af is more accurate than the Contax tvs iii I just returned.

According to the manual the battery check is done by covering the light meter window. If the low light led turns on, the battery is good.

Got my film back. Love this thing. Got better results with it than my 8 times more expensive Contax TVS III.

After getting an XA, then the Canon MC, I wanted one of these to add to the group in my collection, but quit collecting before I ever found one. Glad it takes good photos for you.
