The new tripod head arrived. Reason enough to overcome my Speed Graphic Paralysis. I set everything up late this afternoon. Camera with 127mm Kodak Ektar and Voigtlander 7 7/8" Collinear II, No. 4 and a holder with some Polaroid 667 film. A couple wasted shots figuring exposure. Another when I forgot to pull the darkslide and then pulled the film out before I realized my mistake. Then I plopped the prints on the scanner. This is fun! It's all uphill from here.

Wow ... I like those pics and it reinforces what the big negs can do to you once you see them and how your perception of 35m film changes as you go up the scale.

I can't believe I have a perfect unused Crown Graphic in the cupboard and plenty of film in the fridge ... I think I'm a little intimmitaded by the developing process but looking at LF images I think I'm going to have to get over it.

Well, Venchka just blew your excuse... Polaroid. I too am ready to get back into LF a bit. Have a neglected camera. Just got my new Kodak Readyload... (The new model with a film pressure plate and notches in the side for Graflok back. ($75 LIKE NEW on eBay) Going to defeat my most hated function of large format. Film loading and/or processing. Going readyloads, quickloads and Polaroid preloads. Never touching the film. I want to capture images. Then have them processed, and then I will scan them on either an Epson 4990 or V700, as soon as I make up my mind on which one to get.

Those are some very effective images, very nicely composed. Great to see.

Be sure to get your hands on some type 55 while supplies last! That generates some of the finest 4x5 negs possible.... well worth the cost, no darkroom needed.

The Polaroid process is habit forming. Type 55 P/N is on my shopping list.
 
LOL, colyn -- as a doc, when I saw the title of the thread I immediately thought "what the hell..."

Nice shots, Wayne! It's funny, there really is an "activation barrier" to overcome before shooting LF for the first time. As I kept practicing movements with my Shen Hao in the living room my husband was going nuts over when I was going to actually take a picture...

I strongly agree regarding the chromes -- oh my gosh, my first developed set (though nothing special regarding composition) were really something else. It did take me a few months to try Pola 55 (expensive), but they are beautiful.

The cheapest way to really dive in is still to buy a box of 4x5 sheet film and a few holders and give it a spin, I just crank up some tunes while loading the holders:

And the first time I developed I just did single sheets in a tray 😱 -- more tunes and some beer helped. Really simple and really cheap!

Uh-oh, you guys have reawakened my interest in the Graphics, I still don't own a 4x5 version....

I'm itching to try instant film myself; I have Polaroid 545 back for my SG and CG, but the film cost makes it rather prohibitive.
I'm looking to buy a Polaroid 405 back to use with 600-type film as a cheaper alternative.

I'd get real 4x5 sheet film if I had a darkroom and some more development skills 🙁

Is that the 127mm in the shutter I cleaned & timed? Does it seem to be working OK?

I've got a box of Fuji E-6 QuickLoads sitting here waiting for a few seconds of glory in the Polaroid holder, fo us to try on our next trip out...
 
Hi Westley!

Yes, that is the very same Kodak Supermatic (X) shutter you "hosed" with brake cleaner. 😀 It's working fine.

I'll bring the originals back with me after Thanksgiving. I accept your gracious offer! I have a Polaroid 545 holder that is supposed to work fine with the Fuji Quickloads. I have 3 Polaroid backs in all. The 545 and 2 holders for 3 1/4"x4 1/4" film packs.
