"Leica has hinted that it will introduce high-definition video recording features with its long-awaited M10 camera at Photokina this September."
(Now I can imagine what the price of the M10 would be..)

'we'???
'we'???
who is WE? i actually think it is a very tiny minority of people who would 'need' or even want the video feature.
i have ZERO interest in that, for example! no, thank you, if i ever wanted or needed that feature, i would get a proper video camera.

I would probably never user video on any stil camera, but who cares? The extra cost of putting it in is close to zero.
Interesting... and it implies also live view and a CMOS sensor. Since I don't care about video, for me it would just add to menu clutter.

I would not buy a camera with this feature even if I could afford it. Leica is about still images and simplicity.

The best camera is one that still works!
I'm curious about the frame rate!
Will it be 24 or 30 decisive moments per second?

It will be great if it can do HD video ...
not because it can do video, but because that means there will be sufficient processing power and bandwidth to write to the SD card much higher rates than the M9.

Oh friends, Video would be a gift, something you can use, but you don't have to use it. I guess the M10 can still photographs. And the menu won't be cluttered I gues...

In the technology world we call this Feature Creep, and it's rarely a good thing.
Say, grab your kindle and find the clock and tell me what time it is - oh, what? you mean you can't, find the clock? It doesn't have one??? But a clock is a very cheap easy feature to include in any electronic device, why wouldn't Amazon.... oh, right, because it would distract from the main purpose of the device.

Amazingly the iPad does not have as standard an alarm clock - yet the iPhone and iPod touch do - they all run the same OS :bang:

Wow. The vitriol.
I would love a Leica m solution for video but will be unlikely to be purchasing one when it arrives. I'm travelling to NYC next week and am deciding which camera(s) to bring. I need video for an interview I'm shooting and am probably begrudgingly bringing my 7d with either a m7 or m9. Be nice if the m9 had video is all I can say.

If the new M can use an EVF, then this device needs a live video feed, so may as well have the camera be able to record this if wanted. If not wanted, turn it off.

Shouldn't the M video feature rather be called 'the indecisive moment generator'?

How the hell are you supposed to focus a rangefinder with video capability without having your subject smack in the middle of the frame constantly ... or am I missing something obvious?

By using live view of course!

Or an EVF (preferably with focus peaking)
I hope they wil call the EVF Visoflex IV.
If it is the same technology as the X2 we will be able to use the Olympus ones.

This is a reality in reportage today (video). For the M10 to have any claims in the working reportage market, video is a solid addition.
I think an M10 with better high ISO performance and video will put more Leicas back in the working kits.

I will be completely honest here - if the next Leica digital had a video mode, I would just leave my dSLR set up entirely. The only reason I feel I ought to get a 5D Mk.II+ is to have the option to shoot video if I'm needed to for a client. If the M10 had video in it, I wouldn't need to invest more into a system I just don't enjoy using as much.
That said, if the M10 weren't a rangefinder but a mirrorless, I probably wouldn't go for it since I don't really jive with the focus methods for them (Unless they did a digital rangefinder patch, which I could potentially get behind)

I think making videos with an M body just looks wrong.
