Find a used M9-P instead of going with an X-Pro2?

i see xpro 1 for 300.- locally, so i expect the pro 2 to be 700 a year from now, 9-p have already taken their toll in pricing so at the actual prices they re a good buy imo.

Better is subjective. You cannot fathom why anyone would want a Leica M9 over a Fuji X-Pro2? I love the X-Pro2 and I can think of a few reasons. On paper specs are not always the end all be all.

X-Pro1 is 4 years old... the X-Pro2 isn't going to be $700 for a few years.

This bears repeating. If the tool still meets the user's needs, is it really obsolete? The craze in photographic gear for the latest and greatest is not heathy.

Use value and market value are two different things.
Though at least if OP doesn't like the M9 he can sell it at a minor loss in a few months.

There is really a simple way for the OP to decide. Go handle both.
Personally, I love the files from my M9 above all. It also handles the way I want a camera to handle.
I've never had an desire to shoot at some ridiculous ISO. Up to 1600 and a f2 Summicron pretty much cover any lighting situation I might want to shoot in.
I had the sensor replaced which was a hassle and several months without my camera. And then it came back with a screw missing. All was resolved but it was a not a great experience. But I bought a used camera and now have essentially a new one.
Also not sure if it's the CCD or the Leica glass or what but I like the files that come out of the M9 better than what comes out of my XE-2.
The only reason I own an XE-2 is that it's lighter and smaller. X-Pro series kinda negates this so doesn't' make sense for me.

I had occasion to postprocess a few of my old 10D files just a few weeks ago. I cannot say that I could fault them, and the improvement in Photoshop over the years (or my PS skills🙁) was more noticeable than the increase in image quality per se.

... and I still trot out my Nikon D1 for the occasional jaunt. I think we're well past the point where older digital gear is to be avoided, and have been for several generations. I also think an M9 class camera is about as old as I could justify buying today.

Factor in eating part of the shipping costs (which are higher here than in NA), insurance, Paypal fees, credit card conversion rate losses, risks involved with fraudulent buyers and eBay/Paypal policies, etc. It could perhaps be done, but it is not easy fast money. The European eBay prices reflect this. You need to buy locally to get the really good deals. Man in the middle is never in it for charity.

I did love my M9, but the XP2 is in a different league all together. Image quality is so much better both at base and high ISO. The body is slightly lighter and you have the option of not only mounting legacy glass (albeit with an APSC sized sensor), but also using Fuji's excellent AF lenses! Then there are little things like wifi, the EVF, better screen, faster operating speeds, etc.
For my Leica fix, I kept my MP and shoot film. Shame that the recently announced MD is so thick (and expensive) otherwise I would have considered getting another digital Leica. But for now, Fuji is a much smarter choice (for me) over Leica digital.

I see M9's regularly crop up for €2000 and M9P for €2500-2700. Dealer prices are obviously a little higher.

Beauty and functionality is definitely in the eyes of the beholder.
The M9 is far from obsolete, it may not be the latest or the greatest but the camera still rocks.
If a user already has several M or LTM lenses to use with a M body then it makes a lot of sense to stay the course instead of switching brands.
