Hi there, all.

I'm strongly considering picking one of these up. I'm wondering if any of you suggest waiting for an 'S' or 'X' model to come up for sale? I'm thinking more about the manufacture date than anything...I would think that the more recent the body, the more time I have before problems arise.

Is there a particular model where failure rates are lower?

Now, if I can only find one of the damn things! They only seem to pop up when I can't afford them. Now that I can...nothing!

Cheers.

I have seen several S here in Japan for 2nd hand sale.. usually with a price of 30.000 to 50.000JPY above the price of an "blank" R-D1 (startiong at around 110.000JPY) ..
The X are also for sale sometimes... but they lack the flippable display..

btw: the R-D1x(G) can still be bought new here.. last price I saw was around 240.000JPY..

Lucky you! Seems that the price for the original is the only manageable one, and even then it sounds about 10000 yen too high...unless its NIB of course.

Thanks, Rob. Cheers!

I wouldn't fret over the different models, I think they are almost identical. Any original R-D1 will have the R-D1s firmware update, making it identical. Find one in good condition that hasn't been abused, and you will be fine.

i have an rd1 and an rd1s...there is no difference in the operation of either.

the only real advantage is the expiry of service times.

also, another couple of satisfying outings with the x100 and there might be an ad in the classifieds soon...just sayin'
