They fixed bugs - performance and otherwise ("glitches"). You don't really expect them to give you a list, documenting all that was wrong before the update ?

The last Olympus firmware update for the EP2 is version "1.1". Now that the EP3 is out, I suspect that no more EP2 firmware updates will be coming.
The firmware update for the M8 is appreciated. Judging from the much larger size of the M9 update compared with the M8 update, a factor of 4x, I suspect the M9 has a newer version of the microcontroller with much larger flash memory for the code. The M8 probably does not have enough memory for the manual lens selection menu.
