I just downloaded and applied the latest firmware version 1.09 to my M8. It was a very easy process and only took a few d a new Tri-Elmar 1:4/28-35-50 ASPH lens since I rec'd my M8, has anyone sent their old lenses out to be updated. If so, how long has the process taken from mailing to return?

I sent five lenses Nov. 28 and got four of them back on Dec. 20 -- Leica NJ didn't have the bayonet for one of them, a 50mm Summilux, and so that will be delayed. Overall, three weeks to turn around.

This also apparently answers the questions of some people who wondered whether they were removing each bayonet, milling it, painting it, and putting it back, and the answer to that is apparently 'no.' You get a new bayonet.

I should note that I sent my lenses in by registered mail, which is the safest way, but also takes a bit longer that other types of mail. So though I sent them on Nov. 28, they may not have gotten there (probably didn't) until Dec. 4. If you overnight them, you may be able to cut most of a week off the process.

The lens work IS done in NJ. The camera fixes are done in Solms.

New Jersey received mine on 11/11 and I got them back 12/6. I was pretty satisfied with that turn-around.

Note: I have a 135mm f/2.8 Elmarit that they could not update. I think (now that I look at it) that there isn't enough physical space on the bayonet for the codes. My serial number is 206xxxx. If you have one of that generation you might not want to waste your time. I am not concerned really about having it not optimized. I would think the bigger gains will be with the wide lenses.

my 50mm summilux probably arrived the same day as yours.. i guess mine is delayed too.
