Chose the 40mm Nokton for the job. All are somewhere between F1.4 to F2.8. Some difficult light that blew some highlights and the lead singer had the spotlight on his bass rather than his face. But I'm pretty happy with the result. All processed with Epson Raw and CS2. All @ 800 iso.

Cheers,

nice work, john. one, two, three, and five are my favs. very good conversion to B&W, too. i've no idea how to handle the highlights on five. the shot works well anyway, imho.

Thanks Mike.

I was very impressed with the noise and sharpness. No need for any noise reduction at all.

I leave on Friday for Copenhagen, Malmo (Sweden), Stuttgart then Paris. A 2 week trip. It's a work trip but the R-D1 will still get a good work out. It won't leave my side :)

So I will have plenty to post on my return.

Cheers - John

Hey nice photos.. You seemed to get in pretty close with the 40mm, or did you crop a bit?
Also, what sort of shutter speeds did you work with? Im about to start shooting a friends band with film so im interested in seeing others who have shot in similar lighting conditions.
cheers

I was able to get front line. Remember though that the 40mm on the R-D1 is the same as 60mm on 35mm.

I have more shots on my zenfolio site. You can see the speed used by putting the mouse over the info icon. From memory anywhere from 30 to 125.

Cheers,

John

Primo John! Primo! Yes, the R-D1 rocks in existing light and spotlit.. I tend to reach for my 40 1.4 for these kind of shots... ;)
