Starting at $7000... I'm wondering which latest model camera will be worth that kind of money in, say, 50 years. If only I knew I would stock up on them right now. 🙂

it is an early Canon Hansa model (s.Dechert p.36) but with the non-depressed finder area I estimate 1936-1937.

One cool thing about the Hansa is that it would be very difficult to forge from another model!
Looks as if they've got some other neat stuff in their auction, too, including what appears to be a legitimate factory-black Canon 7 (note real brass wear marks, not the chrome wear marks often seen in Canons blackened especially for eBay) and a universal finder w. the 28mm attachment, which is a distinctly weird-looking combo!

Some observations:
This body has The basic lay out of an Origional (this is a model name) (Dechart Page 37)
This body has a late style shutter release guard Like an early Hansa model (Dechart Page 37 & 41)
This body has the rewind release lever of a Late model Origional (Dechart Page 41)
The arrow engraving around the rewind release is also typical of a Late "Origional" model
This body has a serial number higher then those late model Origionals sited in Decharts book.
The Finder area is of "Origional style not the early Hansa style (Dechart Page 40)
The Base plate is clearly a 2XXX style which is also indictive of a later model "Origional" The tripod socket being under the shutter release clearly means it is not an early base plate.
(Dechart Page 38, 40, & 41) Of course Dechart makes note that many of the early base plates where exchanged.
The Shutter design with the little flywheel in the cutout is also of Late design (Dechart Page 38)
BUT the mount which is number 717 is listed as being made prior to the end of 1937.
It's M2452 Crate serial number is much later then the examples Peter has in his book
SO If I were to go by what I can see in this auction this Canon is a LATE 1937 Model "Origional" about 5-6 major varitations from the First Canon's or even put together after the Model S came on the market in 1938.

OR very possibly an assembled or repaired camera.
At any rate it is nowhere near the first model of Canon produced as the auction infers.
A very very rare bird none the less.

The Hansa realized a hammer price of 7000 Euros, the starting bid. I was the underbidder on the 35/1.5 which sold for E385, and the wierd looking, and very rare wide adapter and the Universal Viewfinder which sold for E275.
Interesting things, and many of the realizations were higher than I expected.

weird thing these type of auctions... Wrong time-zone showed up, and I missed bidding. Looked for a LF lens as well, showed "46 min left" and when I placed my bid it told "auction is over". You have to bid 1 hour before latest! (Wouldn't 15 min not be enough?) And in order to do that, acknowledged from acutionator, whcih also take some time. Weird weird weird!
Latest I saw a M6 with Summicron go this way for 800 EUR! 1 or 2 bids! 1100 EUR for the Nikkor 1.5-85 in LTM was also IMHO, a bargain for this rare fast lens! I could kick myself, even I had to go to my extra-account for it. In "normal" ebay, I guess it would have make 1800 at last...
