First real outting with my CV 15mm and the R-D1. Had to do a little vignetting control and correction of verticals but I am most impressed with the resolution of this tiny lens. I am also impressed with the abilities of the sensor in R-D1.
I'm beginning to see why people are so attached to their R-D1s and CV lenses.
I'm thinking about getting a 21mm lens and was considering either a Leica or Zeiss but perhaps I should be thinking about a CV instead?
Anyway, just had the urge to share.

Usefully wide isn't it?
Nice shot, with interesting progression of shapes. Presumably you didn't get run over by a bus in taking it... Now how about a 24 or 25mm?

Confirmed RF addict...
Nice shot! I haven't seen too many shots using this lens on a dRF, but it looks great!

Doug, thanks for the encouragement. It is wonderfully wide. I also have Sigma 10-20 for my Nikon D80 so I'm used to this type of capability. Incidentally, I A-B'd the Sigma with the CV and the CV has significantly better colour rendition.
I actually think a 24 or 25 would be too narrow. I have an Elmarit 2.8/28 and my only complaint is that so far I find that I want to widen the shot too often. That's why I think it has to be a 21mm.
Just noticed that Robert White in the UK have an announcement about a VM 21mm CV and a waiting list for when it arrives. Might just put my name down for one

Great; I think you're well ahead of the curve when you know what works for you.louisb said:I actually think a 24 or 25 would be too narrow. I have an Elmarit 2.8/28 and my only complaint is that so far I find that I want to widen the shot too often. That's why I think it has to be a 21mm.

From what's been said here about the new CV21, it seems to be the very same glass reset into a stubbier barrel in the interests of keeping it out of view in the new Bessa R4 wide viewfinder. And of course the bayonet mount. But even with the added cost of a screw-to-bayonet adapter you might find very attractive prices on the previous/existing model with the same optical performance. And the new shape offers no advantage to the R-D1.

I use the 28mm as more-or-less normal, and go to 21mm for the next wider step. The CV 21mm is an excellent lens - highly recommended. As it happens, I traded for a s/h Elmarit for the f2.8 and less vignetting - but as far as optical quality is concerned, the CV is right up there... here's a LINK to a shot on the CV 21mm.
by the way, where is that bridge? Just curious, there's one near me like that in London, but that doesn't look like London.

Yep, it is Prowse Place in Camden Town, so it is London.
Your CV 21 picture "Welsh Stones" is excellent. Thanks for the link.

The "old" 21mm might actually make more sense for you because you can use the 21mm finder that comes with the lens as the finder for the 15mm lens - that's what I do - and the finder is very nice. The new 21mm does not come with a finder anymore and is in my opinion overpriced compared to the old one. There is no better deal out there than the CV 21mm lens with finder.

Hi LouisB,
I use a CV15mm with my M6 (so it appears even wider compared to the Epson RD). I thnk you'll love this lens. I was surprised at how often I used it. Here are some recent efforts (more in my gallery)....

Stupendous pictures. Where is that branch of Selfridges? Very bizzare building but perfectly captured with the wide angle.
Thanks for your input

Hi LouisB,
Thanks! That wierd building is the Birmingham branch of Selfridges. The bridge links the building to a multistorey carpark. You can see it from ground level in the picture called Sky Bridge 1 (taken with a 28mm CV Ultron).
The 15mm CV produces unusual shots of buildings/architecture but is also great for fun shots where there is something of importance in the foreground. I have even used it for portraits. See...
