One of the perks of working at a camera store is that sometimes you get free stuff. And this time we scored big time, Nikon gave the Pro Photo sales team their flagship Coolpix, the P7000.

It didn't get great reviews like the G12/S95 or the LX5, but I like this little beast. Great, sharp, remarkably noiseless(ish) pictures even into semi-high ISOs. It's got feature glut but all the physical dials are great on the fly. Plus the meter is better than the TTL meter in my 5D2! I'm not kidding this thing handles tough situations like I can't believe.

The thing I'm most surprised about is the lens. It's remarkably sharp. Nikon is one of the great underrated lens manufacturers.

I was actually just reading about this little Coolpix the other night. Being as DPReciew is usually brutal on the Coolpix line it actually was fairly favorable.

Have you shot RAW with it yet? How are the ergonomics! Feel solid?

Feels as solid as a Canon G.

yes I shot RAW which is fine. Only the Nikon software process the files so far so I'm not sure I'm going to bother until Aperture 3 can do it. It's still just a point and shoot after all and so far I'm just making snap shots.
