Well, I eventually succumbed and bought a good user lens for £599.00 trading in a Summarit and an Olympus OM2SP with 55mm f1.2. (for £250)

This lens gets slated when compared to the Summicron. Have just got my 1st film back from it. Wide open it is a little lacking in contrast and edge definition and there is flare in heavily backlit situations. All of that goes by F4.0. It's small and light and a joy to handle on the M2. I tried an Ultron 35mm 1.7 in the shop but it was MUCH bigger and just didn't feel right on the camera. There just aren't user 35mm Summicrons to be had over here it seems and I think you would need to be looking at 12x18 inch enlargements before you saw any difference at smaller apertures. F1.4 gives you that ability to just lose the background in blur even with a 35mm lens - fantastic. Probably isn't the sharpest Leica lens ever but if you put it up against the common 28-90 zooms most people have on their SLR's, there is just no comparison. 1st roll was colour print (!!) but just for the purists I have a roll of Ilford FP4+ in it now.

No, I won't post the shots as they aren't up to it, e.g. a picture of my wife blinking and looking uncharacteristically dopey, but if I get anything reasonable from the FP4 I will

Andrew i have used this 35 lux a lot in a recent longterm project posted on the rangefinder news section under "HU BnW Magazine and Webphotomag" in the post is a downloadable PDF (40MB) which displays my recent work.
I really like the way this lens responds with TX film. Much was shot in the 1.4-2.8 range.

Thanks for the link Simon, your work is deeply impressive, the photos illustrate the text beautifully, the message never over-emphasised, very moving.

Thanks Andrew. Like I said a great little lens so long as long as you can live with it's particular qualities and quirks. I also really like the 50/1.4 pre Lux (E43) - the two when shot together in the same project yield very compatible images IMHO. I recently acquired an 28/2.8 elmarit
(version 2) from around the same period for that very reason.

lovely shots J Borger illustrating this len's qualities very effectively!
