First impression : Elmar F 5cm 1:2,8 (1958)

Got the first film back with some frames with this lens today.
Looks ok, sharp but not as sharp as i would like it.
Suspect the new loony at the lab to be adjusting the sharpness down on the lab while he did the scanning. And I'm quite sure, because the other frames taken with the Elmar M 28 was not as sharp either as they use to be. Guess who is going to tell him next time, "I´m watching you, and i can tell when your wrong . . "
But some harder contrast in with the plug-in form the imaging factory and some unsharp mask it got the look i wanted. Don´t like using unsharp mask but sometimes you have to, but in moderate amounts.

Lens is absolutely well built, no wiggling, quite clean glass, would probably become friends after some rolls of film, but se it likely that i still would continue to use the 28mm as my main lens. . . old habit is hard to change.

I consider the lens as a keeper, more photos to come in some time . .

vha, those are all decent shots with 2 & 3 being very good IMO. Number 1 suffers from something that's difficult to defeat; overhead flouresent lighting that places a glare on things.

The tonality of shots 2 & 3 is quite nice and I see no reason to complain about sharpness....... they are certainly sharp enough!

I'd say that your Elmar is a keeper! 🙂

It is quite hard to evaluate sharpness when the computer moniter has only about 72dpi. The contrasty ones can sometimes pretend to be sharp. I evaluate my negs with a loupe.
But concerning you scans, there is a bit of "unsharpness" (I wouldn't say blur or shake, coz it ain't) in it especially in the 3rd one, the two people seem a bit soft when compared to something like a modern summicron, which is THE lens for sharpness (too sharp IMO). But who really cares? They are sharp enough.
