First impressions of Elmarit 24 on M9

So came the day I had been waiting for, and with it my (like) new Elmarit 24 mm ASPH.

What a gorgeous lens, man! Build quality is at top levels, nicely balanced weight on my M9-P and (as pretty obvious) it opens for very interesting possibilities when it comes to composition.

I took a few street photos yesterday evening, all at 1000 ISO, and despite the high ISO setting the lens seems extremely sharp even wide open. The main challenge being that depth of field is.. a lot, and it sometimes becomes difficult to avoid distracting elements behind the subject. Very nice shots! The Elmarit 24 is my walk-around lens on the M8. It's sharp wide open, and I usually never close down further than ƒ4.0.

The vignetting is common only if one is addicted to adding it through Lightroom-processing ;-)

I bought it used (but like new) for the equivalent of 2450 $, which is a very fair price here in Norway as the price of a new one is exactly twice as much.

To me the main challenge shooting with wide angle lenses would be composition. The wider you go the harder it gets being able to fill the frame with information that is relevant to your main subject. Your going to get things toward the outer parts of the frame that might need to get cropped etc...Get closer to your main subject that going to help with composition...Look at the work of Garry Winogrand he was the 24mm master....

I have one on the way, and am thinking about getting a 21 Elmarit e60 as well! For use with my M8. From what I've read the 24 is the better lens though. I just got a color skopar 21, and the quality just doesn't impress, which is hastening my decision for the Elmarit, although the concern is the gap in FOV seems so small, yet in some ways so significant, between the 21 and 24 on the M8.

Are you using an external viewfinder?

I've had the 24 for over a year - It's a fantastically good lens. I got the 24 'Lux first but the Elmarit is the one that I choose most of the time when I want a 24/25 mm.
