mark,
I think I should have said 'function --> form' as in 'form follows function'. I think I'm tipping my hand about my architectural background a bit, and 10 points to anyone who actually understood what I meant by 'Miesian'.
djon,
I got in with permission, honest... seriously, I really did. And I did it agin this summer, but this time I may or may not have had permission, depending on who you ask. I figured it was no big deal, as the place was overrun at the time with the film crew for Bordertown. Didn't get to see JLo, though.
I'm thinking a good low gloss automotive paint, which I'll bake on. I've seen one site that indicates that they use paint with a 30% gloss, per military spec. I'd like to get a paint with the same luster and base color as the black painted parts on the camera, so the top plate and bottom will match the exposed sides reasonably well. That will eliminate the need to paint anything but the easily removed parts on top and the bottom.
I've got it all worked out... in theory, anyway. As I've said, I've got a FED sitting here chemically stripped and ready for final prep and paint as we speak. I just need to get the paint and get going with that step. Then, I can rebuid the FED from the ground up. It'll probably work better than new when I finish, and I bet I'll only have a few parts left over.
