Like I said, managed my first lens relube on an industar 61 but broke the head on the long screw that holds the dof scale. Will the aperture ring eventually start to move, and does somebody have a spare laying around they could help me with? Thanks in advance,

PS: How can I get the lens unit off a jupiter 8 if it won't budge to my strenuous twisting w a rubber grip?

I am assuming you are referring to LTM lenses. As I recall, you can simply unscrew the optical block from a Jupiter 3, but for the J8, you need to remove the retaining ring at the back of the lens.
And more importantly, congratulations!

Hi Dez,
Do you by any chance have a photo of said retainer ring? Is it like the one in the industar that has to be unscrewed w a lens wrench? I was going by this tutorial re the first part of taking apart a j8 being simply unscrewing the lens unit from the focusing mechanism:

The lens does in fact just screw out and easily. the problem is that you have missed some screws. If i remember correctly, first unscrew the three screws on the aperture ring, once this is done you screw the aperture ring into the rest of the lens body revealing the screws holding the lens element in place. once these are out you should have no trouble unscrewing the lens element out.
