We just sent our FIRST lens off to Leica AG in Germany for the NEW bayonet coding. The lens was a 50mm 1.4 ASPH Black new out of the box that needed work on the Helical under warranty. We requested them to change the bayonet to the new Coded version.

We will let you know what happens in 4 weeks.

They are very, very slow at the moment. I sent a Digilux2 to Solms and it took them four weeks to do an estimate and it will take another three to repair, if they make that I have not seen it yet....

Tony, that's interesting, one of my lenses which has gone back was the same lens and it too needed work on the focussing. Compared to the silky smooth focussing of the 35mm f1.4 or 28mm f2, the focussing was decidedly stiff, especially moving it back from the infinity stop, to the extent that it was only really usable using thumb and forefinger not with the finger grip.

I think it's time for a new lens test: pre-ASPH Summilux in hand, vs ASPH Summilux sitting on the repair shelf in Solms 😀
