As per the title,I have put a selection of shots from my first roll out of my Oly XA2 on my flickr site HERE

A friend at work has sent me an email saying he has found an old Olympus Trip 35 (he doesn't say how old) and that I can have it for free! Result. :) Maybe 2008 won't be so bad after all!;)

Happy New Year folks.

and, for a $10 camera, one of the sharpest lenses on the street. Being scale focus and no manual overrides, the camera is a great P&S. I like your water shots the best. They exhibit one of the characteristics of this particular camera. Since the day was overcast the camera probably defaulted to wide open. Even then the photos are sharp pretty much throughout. However they have a characteristic darkening in the corners or sides. I used to think this produced a poor image until I went to a presentation by an art history professor and experienced contest judge in photographic arts.

Slight vignetting is an acceptable practice and often used by photographic artists. It's purpose is to contain the image, rather than let the eye bleed out of the picture on the sides or corners. Once I learned this, I gained a new respect for a small amount of vignetting, much as I see in those water pics and with most of the low light images taken with one of my XA2's

I have an XA, but I find myself favoring the XA2 for the no fuss mode of operation. Thanks for your post.

Regarding purposeful vignetting.

Regarding purposeful vignetting.

I was further convinced of the value of vignetting when I realized Adobe Photoshop has a vignetting tool. Yes Martha, in spite of the constant striving for a lens that does not vignette, our editing tools have a tool so that we can purposefully vignette our photographs. Hmmmmm!

Accept the Trip - it might work and it doesn't need batteries.
Its a great little camera too with a very acceptable lens.
You will enjoy using it - make sure you have/get a lens cap though.

Thanks all for the replies. I quite like the vignetting that you get with this camera too. For the price I paid it truly was a bargain.

I will be getting the trip next week when work starts again and I have a roll of film with it's name on ready!

Yes, do try out the Trip. You might find it has an acceptably sharp lens. :D
