First photos with my 1933 Sonnar

I just bought a Sonnar 50/1.5 of 1933. I made some shots, trying to catch the legendary bokeh...

I used FP4+ in Rodinal.

Soon i'll post some shots made at F8. They are incredibly sharp.

as f2eyelevel says, it looks like a postwar Opton/Zeiss Sonnar ... The photos are creamy & lovely!

Dear f2eyelevel, I'm french as you, but please could you post in english so that everyone could benefit from your words. I can translate if you wish. It is the general rule on the forum to express ourselves in english so that the majority can benefit of everyone's wisdom. 🙂

By the way I meant Opton/Zeiss not as Zeiss-Opton but as either a Carl Zeiss Sonnar or a Zeiss-Opton Sonnar. It is true that this one looks more like a Carl Zeiss Sonnar (Oberkochen). I wrote (too) fast because I was at work 😉

Where did you heard/read about this serial numbers confusion ? It is very interesting. 🙂

THe duplication came about because CZ in Jena continued w/the old (pre-WWII) numbering scheme.

No, not entirely logical. I have nothing against the French language & happen to be able to read it well enough to understand your posts, but as Max (darkkavenger) pointed out, posting is for the benefit of all readers of the forum, not just the original poster (who wrote in English, anyway). Of course this is a free Internet forum & this isn't a legal matter, just 1 of courtesy & etiquette (1 of the fine French words loaned to English).

@darkkavenger : a quicknote on your comment about my written language : AFAIK, this is a free Internet forum, and I still can write my posts in the language of my own choice. Writing in French to tell something to a French member seems pretty logical, uh ?

Pan, those are really nice images. Not just the composition and the f1.5 aperture, but the developing and scanning? Very nice presentation.

To get back on topic, nice shots (it appears your Contax RF-Leica adapter is giving you proper close-focus). Can we look forward to seeing some color work, perhaps?

As others have pointed out, you actually have a post-WWII Sonnar, but the prewar version provides a similar look:

The lack of coating on the prewar lenses = less contrast, of course, but not as much as you might expect.

I'm glad with the Sonnar and the adapter that i bought on ebay.
I wish i could do color-pics soon but unfortunately i don't have any digital rangefinder camera...i'll have to buy some color film.
For the scanner i use Nikon coolscan 5
