I picked up a Minolta Hi-Matic 9 a while back on EB for cheap. It had a stuck shutter.
Some lighter fluid dosing later, I shot a roll, and am blown away by the sharpness of the lens.
The electronics don't work, but who cares.
Attached is an example, taken in downtown Troy.
This confirms my impression, after using the Minolta SRT101 SLR, that Minolta made some of the best lenses out there.

i remember, from many years ago, when the big fight was who made the best lenses, nikon or canon? that when reading the test reports in some of the photo mags that minolta actually made better scores than either of the other big 2 but somehow were relegated to third place because of...whatever!
minolta has always made very good glass.

My Himatic 11 has the same lens as the 9 and it is very good. I just sold it here to another rff member...Got to be some better shots of Downtown Troy than trash cans!

Yes, but I wanted to show off the lens. I'll try for nicer scenes from Troy on the next roll.

I have the 7s and am greatly impressed with the quality of the lens. Very sharp. the Balloon Feista pictures in my gallery are from the 7s. Run some classic Plus-X and you will see a certain classic look I think only these older lenses can give.

My little Hi-Matic E, bought from an RFF member, is likewise a stellar performer with its 1.7/40mm. Although I like my Canonet QL17 very much, the Minolta is sharper, more resistant to flare, and produces more detail in low light situations. Also, my 10-year old likes to shoot with it ;-))
