Greetings!

I am the proud owner of an M6 and a Zeiss 35mm Biogon (my first rangefinder). I've had this combo about 5 months and really love it (I also have a 5D and a few lenses).

My question is in regards to the film rewind. It is not entirely smooth. It almost feels like there is some grit in there (if that makes sense)? Is this normal? Should the film rewind be smooth?

Now onto some images. Here are some recents. All shot with Trix400.

My M6TTL ,also newly acquired, has a very smooth rewind compared to my Bessa R2A.

How many rolls of film have you put through? My Bessa feels a little gritty with different film canisters.

Nice shots btw.

thanks guys! you can see more of my stuff at www.pbase.com/anerino

i have been shooting for about 4.5 years (whenever the Canon 300D came out).

but this is my first rangefinder and only second film camera.

i guess I should make my question more clear. my rewind crank is not completely smooth and this is my first leica. is this normal? the film advance is silky smooth, perfect. and the rest of the camera functions flawlessly...but i am just a bit unclear about the rewind crank.

any insight would be greatly appreciated!

You have a great eye for composition. Have you been shooting long?

I second this. Very good eye for composition. #2 (the birdview of the pool) is my favorite.

About rewinding ... From my experience (actually M6TTL and M4-P), it very much depends on the film and humidity, how smooth or rough rewinding is. Worst is Fuji NEOPAN 400 at high humidity in summer, when I really need a lot of force to rewind the film. Ilford rewinds very smooth. I think it depends on thickness of the film base.

... and welcome to the forum !! Keep posting a lot 🙂

Welcome to RFF .. I am sure that you will like it here and that a lot of us look forward to more of your great photos....

I too have the M6 TTL (.72 now and a .85 on the way). I did have the 35mm Biogon and loved it... Sold it and am now setting for a 35mm Summaron instead.

I think I know what you mean about the gritty feeling of the rewind action. I don't know exactly what causes it... but am not too fussed about it. Maybe it's the fold-out (and relatively flimsy) crank not being as solid as the solid knob on the M2/M3. When my .85 body arrives, I'll compare the two and will let you know. Hopefully, it won't be "so good" to the point that I have to send my first one for a service (although both are still mint).

I think I know what you mean about the rewind feeling a bit gritty...although when I rewind my m7, I don't feel grit but i do feel a good bit of tension having to do with the pressure plate being pretty snug. If there's no scratch marks on the film I'd imagine everything is just fine.

thanks guys for the warm welcome!

sounds like i dont really have a problem. i was sort of expecting the rewind to be effortless because everything else on the camera was so damn smooth.

but thats cool.

i am going to shoot a few rolls this weekend at a buddy's wedding, so i'll be posting some next week.

If the rewind feels the same when there's no film in the camera, you might try a couple of drops of light oil on the rewind shaft with the point of a needle.
