First Post & R3A Deal?

Hello RFF folks. I have been following this forum for about a year and even though my primary camera (was) a Fslr (Nikon F4). My Lite Wt. camera was an Oly XA. 4 weeks ago I was torn between buying a F100 or R3A. I decided to go with the F100 since I have Nikon glass and the investment in Leica and/or Ziess glass is financially intimitdating . I found one for sale locally for $450 CND (1yr. old LN in box). The seller was moving to a Dslr system (Canon) and was selling off a bunch of stuff. He was also selling a R3A + 40mm F1.4. AAhhh........ The obivious answer was to strike a deal for both! After the usual foto blah, blah, haggle... I bought both for $1000 CND. I was like buying a discounted R3A + 40mm and getting the F100 for free. I have checked the F100 with my lenses and have not seen it since. The R3A Rocks! Several rolls later I am wondering if I should put some film through the F100. But I am having so much fun wtih the R3A and I am not sure where the F100 is.😀

Scanner or Lenses?

Scanner or Lenses?

I would love to put some pics in the gallery. As soon as I figure out how to plug my slide projector into my computer. I am torn between buying more lenses for the R3A or an Epson scanner.

Welcome! You might ask your processing lab to forget the prints and instead give you a CD of the scans of your negs... Gives you a good start for seeing what you have and uploading samples.

If you're just scanning for the purpose of sharing your photos online, an expensive scanner is overkill. I bought a $125 Canon that suits me just fine. Developing costs $6 a roll. If I want prints I just get them made from the negs.

I really have to think for a minute to remember wher my Nikkormat is. Oh yeah in the bag at the bottom of the closet. (has to at the bottom cause it weighs a ton). Where is that dinky digital Pentax? hmmm. Rocking with my R3a and dreaming of a R3M.ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I agree with Andrew, a cheap scanner is all you need for the web.

just picked up a K-M Dimage Scan Dual IV for $175. $2 for the negs at Walgreens then scan in to Photshop. Voila!😎

Thanks for all the scanner advice. I am wanting print as well as post to the web. I just completed a deal with Butch for a KM 5400 II. Hoping to get the unit up and running next week. This all seemed alot simpler with a projector and when you needed prints you went to the lab. They did the printing and you could out and take more photos. I feel like I am spending more time learning how to use my computer, scanner, Photoshop, monitor callibrator, printer... than I am taking photos. :bang:

Just think of it as an extended darkroom/personal minilab. Lots and lots of possibilities to do more than snapshots at the mercy of a bored lab technician.
