Wow. This is cool.

Shooting with a rangefinder and seeing my results immediately - now that's a new one. I've shot with many film Ms, and recently bought my first one, but this R-D1...neat stuff indeed.

The first thing I noticed is how amazing the rendition of the in-camera B&W is! No more Adobe conversions for me. Second was the ergonomics - damn good, in my hands anyways.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know this camera. I've had some trouble focusing with a fast lens wide open as the rangefinder needs calibrating - the package must have taken a tumble during shipping, but once that's done I'm sure I'll have no trouble. (Tech appointment tomorrow morning!)

Finally, Joe, thanks for giving me this opportunity. Cheers.

I'll be back with some samples once I've had it calibrated.

I'm not surprised at your reaction. The RD1 is a very special camera. I know what you mean about the B&W through Epson Photoraw or jpeg, but the colour is also pretty special. I do regret selling mine  I'm sure you'll have fun with it.

I love it too. Yes its dated, but for what it is its truly a gem. Such a unique camera and a joy to use.

I look forward to seeing your images from it.

I've had mine a month now, and I also loved the B&W quality of the JPEGS (shooting colour RAW + JPEG is a really flexible combo).

I also struggle to get mine focused wide open (f1.4) with the CV40. Wondering if it's me or the rangefinder - might see if I can find a UK technician to look at it.

Look forward to seeing the piccies.

Not to hijack, but as a new Rd1-S user, I'm definitely diggin it :)

I promised pictures. Please ignore the sensor dust, and the lack of, well, good pictures. I've got to get used to the camera.

All nearly straight out of the camera - bumped the contrast just a tad.

I really like these piccies, especially numbers 1 and 2.

Are you on the Nokton 50 there?

Yes sir. All of the shots with the R-D1 have been with the Nokton, actually. I'm hoping to buy an Ultron 28mm locally tomorrow, as the Nokton is very long with the crop factor.

& thanks for the compliment!

You should like the Ultron 28 Ethan. I had the f2 version and it was my main lens for a long time until I sold it to get a 35mm UC-Hexanon. While the Hex is a superb lens I simply haven't taken to it as much as the 28 and often think about replacing it.

I hear you. The one I'm considering is the f1.9 version, but the price is right. With the pictures above, oI was standing at the edge of a lake, but found myself backing up far too much because of the effective 75mm of my Nokton. Not ideal for the above shots.
