I am currently working on a series showcasing the people in my town. I've been trying to get portraits of the most common, everyday, working people I can, and have been trying to depict all of the kinds of things you see here: the good and the bad. A journal based out of Pittsburgh called Human Equity Through Art is interested in publishing some of my stuff after seeing a bit of my portfolio, and I figured it would be a great opportunity to try to get permission to shoot at the local railroad shop. I'd love to get some W. Eugene Smith type pictures (wishful thinking -- one can dream, right?) of the men who work at what once was the number one (and only) industry in Altoona. How should I go about getting permission? I called the head of media relations in Harrisburg, but doubt they'll have any say over it. Do you think I'd need credentials from the journal? What can I expect on this kind of shoot?
