Yes it looks like it's retained all the optical qualities of the native 35mm lens. Love that Fuji have expanded the uses of the x100 despite the x-pro1 being out!

How hard would it be to make a conversion lens of similar quality that turns the 35mm into a 50mm? I'm surprised to hear the quality of the lens was largely maintained with the step down converter and that got my hopes up for a step-up converter.
A camera the size of the X100 with the quality OVF, great low light sensitivity and the option to switch between 35 and 50 would be my ideal travel digicam.

maybe its me, but i dont get the extra size/weight/cost to go from 35-28mm, or indeed to go from 35-50mm. take two steps back or three steps forward, maintain the integrity of the compact pocketability of the X, and buy a real lens for another camera.
if they took it to 21mm or so, or 75mm or so, it'd make a heck of a lot more sense to me, though i'd still rather use this cam as originally designed. but at least at those type differentials, i'd understand why folks might be excited.

barrel distortion at great levels! i think the x100 is a great fixed lens camera..if you want to go wider you just need another kind of gear.

Fixed with any good raw converter with nill quality loss in about 1 second. Fixed automatically in JPEGs.

Wasn't there a Yashica fixed lens RF in the '70s that came with a set of wide and lo g converters? I seem to remember seeing a 2nd cousin with a nifty kit like that some years ago....

Yes - you are right. I have one of those sets with both a "wide" and a "tele" converter for the Yashica cameras. Quality was not that great but I have had fun with them.
Ordered my X100 wide-angle converter today - it will be very interesting to test it and see how the quality comes out!

You may have to crop (after correction) which could lose something pertinent though.

Not from the last 1500 shots that I have taken on the WCL-X100, all of which have been accepted by the Agencies that I deal with. If there was a problem with distortion they would have been thrown back at me for sure. That said, I had to make some minor adjustments to some close up shots I did, but nothing serious.
