You mean Sherry Krauter? Thanks, I didn't know she worked on Canon RF's!

It works well with a Bessa, I use mine on a Bessa R2 with an adapter.
Why the reputation for flare? Like many of the Canon lenses, several RFF members including myself have had damage to the rear module from oil seeping through the aperture mechanism. The surface just behind the aperture blades gets hit. I've had one lens where the Canada Balsam got discolored. Others have seen lenses with etched glass. This will show up as an increase in flare.
With that said, my "not mint" 50/1.2 gives a lot of good pictures in available light. By "not mint", I build mine out of parts lenses and needed a dremel to cut the rear glass out of a severely damaged lens. For a total cost of $90, no complaints!

Hi Vic! They seem to go for $300 and up, depending on condition, and since they're screw mount, you can put them on anything with an adapter.
Brian, maybe that's why I've had better luck with my copy, the glass is perfectly clean. I do still have to have it relubed, though, as it's a bit stiff right now.

Kevin,
My Canon 50mm f1.2 was CLA'd and collimated by John at Focal Point. He gets all my lenses. Reasonable price and very fast turnaround times. DAG does really super work but he gets backlogged and it takes a while. My Canon 35mm f2 took almost 3 months but it was worth the wait!

Here's another shot to demonstrate this lens' resistance to flare. This is a half-frame crop of the left side of the image with the setting sun in the upper left corner. Seems pretty good to me, and I certainly wouldn't have tried this shot with a 50 Summicron. This sort of lighting situation is, I think, one where older, less contrasty lens designs excel.

I find myself using this lens so often for family snapshots. As a result, its rapidly turning into my favourite lens. Younger members of the family who are used to using cellphones or DSLRs/compacts love the look it gives. Not all down to the lens of course, film is also playing a role here. This one is nothing more than a snapshot but I know the subject (or rather her mother) will dig it:
Suffice to say that I'm bonding with this lens, not going to get sold any time soon...
