Christmas arrived, and with it was my (new to me) Zorki-1 - I had to wait till yesterday to get some chemicals to process the first film and thought I'd share a couple of shots. - Finding chemicals is a tricky job! - Evil 'jessops' were the only ones with both fixer and developer sad to say and even then just one bottle of each. I guess things have moved on in last 20+ years since I processed a film.

Camera itself is gorgeous. - Very compact and seems very quiet, smooth and easy compared with the Zorki-4 I've been recently 'fixing'. (and don't yet have a reel for). Overall I'm really pleased with it and there's nothing serious wrong with it.

There are a couple of issues that the negatives seem to show:-

1. - Negatives were all a little 'thin'. - I sort of feel they could have done with a little more processing, but not sure if that was an issue with the processing or the exposure. - Or maybe the years out of date film....

2. - On a few shots it seems that one end of the photo is underexposed compared with the other. - This must mean that the curtains are not moving evenly or the 'gap' isn't constant. - I need to investigate this a little more in controlled test as it could even be the scanner..... (Cheapo Veho thing).

3. - Two (and only two) of the negs overlapped slightly. - I guess this could be user error not quite winding on properly.

4. - There's a slight scratch on the negatives which is visible on the scans.

5. - Some 'flare' from the default lens but this is just something to be aware of I guess, not really a defect. - I do have a J-8 from the Z-4 outfit, but I can't see me using it with this camera as it ruins the size / portability. - So, i'd like to stick with the I-22 and my Orion-15 for this (as yet untried except for a couple of shots where there wasn't really enough light).

6. - Not quite certain of focus, though this again could be user error. - The rangefinder seems to agree with the scale on the lens and a tape measure, but I'll have to do some tests.

Just a quickie re: Jessops.
Order chemicals on line for a shop pick-up a couple of days later; you get what you want (fresh), a good choice of developers etc., no delivery problems if you are out at work, and there are no issues if its wrong.
Look for chemicals under A-Z.
I'm not a great fan of Jessops, but doing things this way seems to work.
Robin.

Pixtu, You are probably right - I'll just bang a few films through and then decide if there is an issue. - That way at least I don't run the risk of breaking something if I get the spanners out.

Robin, that's a really good idea regarding getting stuff for in store pickup. - In fact, I could probably get the local camera shop to do this which is just 2 mins walk from work.
