Seems like the outdoor shots (shutter was set for 1/500) are a tad over exposed. Should I adjust my film speed?

Shot on Ilford Delta 400.

How did you scan and process this? Those highlights look like they should be easily recoverable, given an appropriately linear scan and correct contrast in post.

actual exposure looks fine to me. i like the portraits a lot.

seems there's a bit of an issue with a light leak, though...not to mention the lab's inability to recognize the edges of your frames.

Yeah, they did a pretty crappy job, but as stated earlier, the fogging was from when I opened the camera mid-roll. It was in the shade inside my backpack, but it was really sunny out, and the bag was open...

The photos not affected by the opening of the back look good to me. The RC has a wonderful lens. Try again. Also try ANOTHER LAB!

If you feel the highlights are to dense in the negatives, you need to shorten the deleoping time. Changing ISO settings will affect the details in the shadows.
In your case, it seems you should change the lab.
Before I started developing at home again, where you have all control, I used XP2; it is also easy to scan. The C41 process is much better standardized. You never know what they do to normal silver film.

Go ahead, try it out

Hi,

I know computers are wonderful and photo editors ditto but I still feel an old fashioned enlarger gives you much more control.

BTW, I'd be pleased with the lab and the camera after looking at the photo's. You'd have to pay a lot, lot more to improve on the lab.

Regards, David
