Please keep in mind that I used a Jupiter 3, as I cant afford any leitz yet. The newly CLA'd M3 arrived monday. I shot this roll tuesday and developed it (Ilford XP2 400) last night in my sink. I did, however, use the most expensive light meter ever (my nikon D700). I need to get a leicameter I guess.

All shot at 4th ID memorial here at Ft Hood, TX. The rest can be viewed in my gallery on this site.

Nice pics Rich. I love it when someone show some shots from a Soviet J3 or J8 mounted on a Leica and they lool as good as the best of Leica glass. I still do not accept the Soviet/Leica misfit story as in my experience the focus has always been fine thru 7 or 8 samples.

Your shots look to be fairly close-up shots as well.

Enjoy your camera and regards,

Paul C.

Congratulations! A properly CLA'd M3 can be an almost sensual experience to operate. As for the meter, pick up a used Sekonic L-308 or similar on Fleabay or a Gossen digisix. Leicameters are a pain and very rarely work any more.

+1 The Gossen digisix is da bomb! Real pro light meter 🙂

Nice work. And I agree with the others that a small shoe-mount light meter will be fine. Don't worry about the brand. Just make sure it works and is accurate.

Congrats on getting a classic Leica M camera. The J-3 can be very sharp when collimated correctly for a given camera. Your image looks very nice to me. Selective focusing along with high sharpness have resulted in what you have posted.I have compared in the past 20-25 50mm lenses, and I once used four J-3 lenses. They are very sharp.

thanks all. Raid, I heard about your 50mm review and have been looking for it.. do you have a link to it? I would like to check it out.

Paul, the FED 2 is still one of my favorite cameras, even after using this M3 a little. The fed 2 is a blast.
