First roll with Nokton 1.1

Right OK, I'll do that, I actually expect no part of the ruler to be in focus, it's *that much* out of whack, but we'll see. Thanks for the help...
 
OK, I'm going to do it now, only problem is that in focusing the lens as close as it will go, it actually goes past the "1" marking. Not sure if this is normal or not?

Anyway, I'll test the lens both at "1" and the limit of how close the lens will focus.
 
Also, when focused to infinity, the lens does not quite make it to the inifinty marking on the lens when it hits it's limit.

Anyway, I've shot the ruler at 1.1, 1.4, 2, 2.8, 4 and 5.6 at both the limit of the lens, and the actual "1" meter marking. I'll hopefully get the film processing tomorrow and be able to report back.

I was recommended Malcolm Taylor to look at this lens/camera, has anyone any experience with him? I'd like a fast turnaround, and a repairer who can look at both the lens and the body and find out which is at fault here.

And thanks again to Neare for explaining the ruler process, I think I managed it OK...
 
Mine is slightly before, I probably would not have noticed had it not been for the teething problems I'm having with the lens. I love the general look of the lens though, the swirly bokeh, and it's pretty sharp stopped down. Plus of course with something Portra 400 @ 800 or 1600, you can pretty much shoot in the dark.
 
Hmm, OK, I think the Nokton passed the ruler test pretty well, here I have three shots which I think illustrate what is going on. The ruler shot shows the lens at 1.1 focused on the | O | on the paper, which I drew to help me focus. This looks OK to me.

Second shot, of the twig shows a close up focus on a twig, again, focus has fallen in the right place as far as I am concerned.

Third shot of the pigeons is where it goes wrong, I focused on the circled pigeon, but clearly it's back focused quite a lot.

Does it seem that either the lens or range finder close focus calibration is fine, but at distance, it's not?

You've used other lenses on the Ikon that focus properly?

If you have, where did you get the lens from and are you able to send it back?
If not, you might need to go down to the local shop and ask to try one of their lenses to see if it's the body or lenses' problem.

It seems like there is some serious fault here somewhere, however it is really weird fault.
 
Yes, my Summicron focuses just fine, although I've not got results from a film shot at f/2 at distance yet. Normally I only shoot wide open at fairly close range, but I'll be interested to see some shots at long range at f/2.

I got it from a shop on eBay in China, it was a bit of a deal compared to the UK price, so I don't want to send it back if it's something that can be sorted out.

I think the Classic Camera stocks the Nokton 1.1 , and that's near me, so I could maybe try out their's and compare to mine.

Maybe it is the camera, if it focuses close up OK, but not at distance would that imply that maybe the range finder needs adjusted for distance, but not close up? Shame I don't have another range finder body to try it on.
