I love it.

Unlike the examples on Lomo's website, this film is very fine grained, very sharp, and has a wicked punch! It almost acts like an ortho film.

Shot with a Nikon F4 in matrix mode at box speed, 50 1.4D (many shots were wide open), Cinestill DF96 Monobath developer.

Is that the same as ORWO technical film (TF 8 or 12d) or some other TF? That’s what I have read, but never researched deeper...

Don't know. Don't care.
:)

Shoots great at ISO 8. Is available to buy.

Oh, forgot to mention one downside. This thing curls like crazy, so it's hard to get it situated correctly in a film holder.

TF 12 can be bought like 10 times cheaper, that’s the only reason I ask.

A marvellous set of photos, Huss. They’ve got a great sense of structural form and there’s a light-hearted touch of humour in the last. Something different and a pleasure to look at.

Thanks Anthony! I wanted to post a cross section of what it can do, as I found the examples on Lomo's site well, "moody".

It seems Lomo never shows its products in their best light, but goes for lo-fi I guess so the average user is not disappointed if they , umm, mess up.

Great photos, Huss! I like the punchy blacks.

But... I tend to agree with Valdas that it's worth finding out. Lomo's Berlin Kino 400 is just ORWO N74+, re-packaged and marked up. In their early marketing photos, they even had a photo that clearly showed ORWO on the edge markings.

Thing is Lomo is selling this film at a reasonable price in a way that is easily accessible.

Where can I buy Orwo TF12 film? Even if that is the same thing.

FYI Fantome 8 has no edge markings. No frame counter, no nothing.

I am now checking with filmotech in Germany. I saw on ebay 2x100ft at 50£, so not exactly 10 times, but them it’s ebay...

Fair enough, no arguments from me. :) If you know what it is and are willing to accept a slight mark-up as a trade off for availability/accessibility, that's great. I guess in that sense, Lomo acts as (re)distributor for lesser known films. And you're getting great results from it!

I guess my beef is more with Lomo's marketing tactics, targeting those who don't know better. For me, them selling Berlin Kino for $8.90 per roll and calling it "2019 edition", when I know I can still get 100-feet of ORWO N74+ from ORWO NA for $70 seems a bit... deceptive. :(

Ok, so bulk loading from a source in Europe, or rolling the dice on ebay?

:)

Some people just want a couple of rolls of film occasionally, want to be able to go to their local shop (or order locally), and get the film from an easy to access and trusted source.

Lomo is a business that only exists if it makes money. Packaging and marketing film costs money, as well as stocking it.

I paid $7.99/36 exp for this ortho(?) film.

For slow B&W films:

Ilford is charging $10.95 for their Ortho Plus 80 film
Rollei RPX 25 is $8
Ilford Pan F 50 is $8.30

It seems people have an allergic reaction whenever something by Lomography is released!

I am not allergic to Lomo (actually love Lomo 800). But I am in Europe, so ORWO is not an issue as a source, bought N75 directly from the factory.

I paid about 3.5€ per roll X36 of Adox CMS 20 at Macodirect ( but in bulk, of course).

+ 1: I'm one who would like to buy a few rolls of film occassionally. Great that Lomo gives me this opportunity.

Of course when you shoot much bulk loading is an opportunity, to each his own :) so nice to have choices !

@ Huss: lovely set of images ! Well seen and well done. Subject and tones are excellent!

That's nice, but not the same film.

How much did you pay for Orwo TF12? .

Assuming that is the same film even though it is rated at ISO 12 vs 8. You do know that Lomo released another film after Fantome 8, right? It is called Babylon Kino w/ ISO 13. Maybe that is the same as the Orwo film you are talking about?
