There was no official ISO on their box, I shot it rated 12. Will scan it later with my Reflecta (no access to Coolscan tonight), and my only digital is Fuji X-E1, so no digicam scanning..,

At least I’ll see what I get from this ORWO in comparison to what Huss has from Fantome although it will be difficult to compare directly - I don’t use monobath (xtol guy) and I don’t have Californian sun![]()
I think dilute Xtol works great for these sort of high contrast films. I tamed an aerial film that is considered to be Tech Pan with 1:3 or 1:4. No other standard developer got normal results for me, including the recommended times/dilutions for HC110.
This of course does not help out on a comparison with the monobath. I have no experience with that, but it seemed to work for Huss, though we are seeing final scans not negatives.
I was darkroom printing the Tech Pan, so had to get the negs into a normal range. Scanning is a lot more flexible.

OK, xtol stock could not really cope with the contrast, neither Reflecta 7200. I will need to try POTA or maybe Rollei Low Contrast developer. I got almost no tones, just black and white, literally
Anyway, I believe in some cases it might be the desired effect, but not always. Some examples:

I guess digicam scanning is a completely different ball game. I will still try on the Coolscan when I have access to. I don’t believe DF96 is a solution - visually, even the negatives are high contrast I can see much more info looking at it compared to what it scans. So, it is a scanner issue, but maybe it is also a different film. Frankly, looking at the data sheet of this Tf I did not expect anything else:

P.S. I developed another strip, changed a bit time and agitation. Visually looks more promising, but I will see when it dries and I scan.

Yeah, it does sound like a scanner issue if you can see there is detail on the film.

Yes, I will see - Collscan should do much better. For the comparison - that's the appearance of negatives, high contrast indeed, not sure you see similar in Fantome?

Hmm, I would not say that your negatives are very much different in terms of contrast, so it must be that digicam really cuts through dense negative areas much better, especially if your light source is flash. I really need to try digicam scanning... I am wondering what would be Dmax that you get scanning with digital camera...

I use the LED tablet that the negatives are sitting on in the image above as my light source. $20 from Amazon.

I tried Orwo TF12 it in Rollei Low Contrast - it is much better in terms of contrast management, it seems that it could be the same film as Fantome 8 at the end. It is just that I don't get that curling issue that Huss has (maybe different temperature/humidity). But many boxes tick...

Orwo TF12d iso 100 in Tetenal Neofin Blau at 20c for five minutes with 10 second inversions every minute.
