First test pics from my RF645

I've uploaded a few of the test shots i took with the first couple of rolls of film I put through my RF645.

They came out ok, will be taking (and developing) my first b&w film hopefully this weekend.

They were scanned in with my epson 4490 scanner @ 3200 dpi . To fit the files onto flickr i then had to downsize them to be 90% of their original scanned size.

I'm still not sure whats the optimum res to scan with the scanner, on some of the shots it looks quite good at 100% but in most areas its not that pleasing. From my brief experience scanning 35mm film i'm expecting b&w to scan much better.

I was kind of hoping you could put some more of your pics you took with it up so i can compare the camera, and more importantly the scanner.. did you get any colour scans done.

Most of the shots are the AGFA, the one of the stile is velvia 50 slide film.

I'll be putting more online when i can and will always try to put as big a file online as possible so people can see whats possible. I have 2 gig a month upload at flickr and haven't used it all yet 🙂
 
Hi Jim, the set of images done with HP5 on your flicker page, what developer did you use?
I really like the look of those images. Nice job!
 
I'm quite happy as well, being my first roll I don't know if I did things right or not. We'll see when i try with other films 🙂

The developer was fotospeed's FD10 - Fine grain One Shot Film Developer

I was paranoid about too much smell so got swayed by their odourless stop and fixer, and decided to simplify things and go with fotospeed for all my chemicals. Following its instructions i think that was developed for 7 minutes at the stronger strength.

Can't wait to put 120 film through the developing process we'll see what happens 🙂
 
Jim, I 've used mainly B&W film and only three rolls of colour (2 Agfa Ultra + 1 Fuji Velvia 50). Much of what I have is already scanned (by the lab - I don't have a scanner). The slide film didn't scan as nicely as the others, that's a familiar problem though. I can email you pictures, let me know what you 'd like to see. In my experience, only one film went terribly wrong and that was my mistake . I shot a an Ilford 3200 at ISO1600 (that's the max ISO setting on the camera) and forgot to tell the labman bout it. There were still a couple of stills that could be salvaged out of this mess.

To be honest anything you would be happy to email I'd be happy to receive, there was a good few new shots with your flickr tag search link above so it was nice to see them. I need to actually get out and take REAL photos soon.. a lot of yours are mind blowingly good.

I'm liking that in my crumpler pizza bag I can fit the RF645 with my R-D1 next to it and have the best of both worlds.. hammer out a load of shots when i'm feeling for something without being confident that its going to be a great shot, and then in the process of doing this or seeing something with my eyes and i think it warrants a proper shot i can put the R-D1 away (after taking a shot with it to compare later) and take some with the RF645.

I also want to do some tripod based stuff to see just how much detail i can pull out of a scene at f32 aperture.
