First time street shooter in New York

Thanks Dennis! I will keep the middle of the sidewalk to the people trying to get to and from work. Believe me, it's not horrible in Vancouver, but shooting today I had to walk on the road in several spots. I can only imagine that amplified by 10x more people.

Small moments in the big city is a dream I have been having ever since I started looking at photogs work. Can you PM me your personal links? Would like to check out your take on the city.

would love too but i am not a good photographer as much as you would be. It's slowly becoming a hobby.. I am just a typical non patient young new yorker... I got my first roll back from my leica that i bought over a year ago lol. what happened was all my shutter speeds were too high so they came over exposed.. but here they are , have a laugh at me

I really want to meet up with other people on the forums too but i think i have embarrassed myself on the forums enough with my arrogance , considering i am not even nearly as half talented as the guys on the forums..

i just sold my summilux for a grand and my leica is on repair and i am thinking about going back to nokton.. there was a forum post on rff i can't remember but it compared directly the pre asph summilux and the nokton 1.4 sc and the nokton actually had nicer bokeh wtf..

so anyways if you wanna be in touch this is my facebook

just message me when you are here

cheeerss,

Hi Scott,

you can go all the recommended places but really you can go everywhere in NYC.
Just keep you eyes and mind open. This place is one of t h e greatest places to street photograph in the world.
I have a "few" shots posted in the member gallery which I have taken in NYC.
You have a new scene and a new unique character literally around every corner. You will be both exhausted and exhilarated. Enjoy !

This one was on a "regular" Sunday on the Coney Island boardwalk:

Criminals are In every town. But don't worry, if you can survive travel to other big cities, travel to NYC is easy. I've been here a Lon time and haven't had issues with muggings or anything sketchy.

one girl i knew that went to nyu got her black paint m3 stolen . I think while she was eating at a restaurant somewhere she put her camera on the table outside and just when she had food on her mouth this guy with a hoodie snatched it and ran like a ****er..

you know what would be exciting is if we all took pictures of the same street subjects at the same time with different film / lens etc and then after scanned combined them together side by side, now that would be cool

I did this with two other guys, but we all shot 120 Arcos and developed all the film later that day. What was interesting is that each shooter had their own vision and distinct signature, even though we all shot the same stuff.

Also know that Dunstan and I are meeting at 10:00 AM Saturday at the Court Square Dinner in LIC to shoot before a pop up book event that will take place around 3:00 PM. Anyways LIC I think of being the A-hole of NYC because it is kinda a polluted vacant area that is full of abandoned heavy industry that exists just across the river from Madhattan.

I'll be there before 10:00 on Saturday having breakfast if you want to join me. On a subway map its this vast area that divides Brooklyn and Queens that extends into Long Island till Masbeth and is more or less non residential and uninhabited.

...walk behind a beautiful girl in a short summer dress through the Bronx on a hot day. I guarantee you'll some of the best street shots of your life.

Very Nice Cal,

I am gonna give all you guys an update on this forum if my M6 will be repaired by Nippon before Sunday. Unfortunately 10 am is a bit early to me or rather late , I am about to go to sleep now. Anyway if the worse happens and if my m6 won't repaired I would still like to meet in the upcoming weeks , even if it won't be as much as a big group for this week.

I am always in NYC and when i am shooting im usually around west village all year long , so keep in touch

thanks

One of my favorite times out shooting was when I was showing someone from LA and another from Germany around my city. We all shot similar photos, but had the best time doing it. It really comes down, 100% to just enjoying it.
