After 16 months of so of daily use, my strap eyelets failed. The camera crashed to the floor but survived.
I figured on two solutions, the first drove me to distration but the second suits me just fine.

Here's a break down on how I did it, http://photohumourist.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/diy-rig-for-x100-as-replacement-for.html
I hope this just might be of use to someone.

Awesome DIY. I love the tape job too!

Proper daily user.
Is that a dent in the hood from the fall?

No. That happened earlier having clipped a door frame. I was glad I had the hood on.

Bit accident prone, this camera. I'd watch over it carefully, if I were you!
The dent adds to the character, anyway. Great look.

I've always been a bit hard on gear. I expect it to hold up well to daily hobby and pro use. I neither have the time nor patience to molly coddle gear. It's got to be tough and deliver quality consistently. I gather the X100s is tougher. It ought to be. Seems the only real weakness of the X100 is the soft metal used for the strap lugs. What an oversight.
