Fix Leica M2 shutter curtain and replace vulcanite

Above, I read that some people cut new curtains for their camera's themselves. Anyone have a template (online?) for shutter curtains for Leica Barnack or M cameras? Or care to create templates in a PDF file?:angel:

I may have notes somewhere, but if you're about to make a pair for replacement, you will have originals to measure from anyway so I'm not sure what the point of a PDF would be...

I bet there is info somewhere down the links supplied above. Sorry for not being very helpful ;-)

hmm...curtains are straight, you don't need a template, only the measures for the long and the short curtain. There are a lot of different barnacks. Which type do you want to replace its curtains? The mainstream ltm zorki's, feds and leica's have about 9,5 cm for the long curtain and 7 cm for the short. The width of the drum provides a good measure for the width of the curtains (in many cases 3 cm).

Thank you guys for all the answers!

I got an the price 290USD for changing shutter curtain ("home made" not Leica original) and CLA.

Right now I'm thinking about paying for the repair and change vulcanite to leather and use this as my only Leica M and sell my currently Leica M2.

Other wise I will keep my current M2 and sell this one as-is. How much do you think I will get for a working Leica M2 except for holes in the curtain and some missing vulcanite?

Um, doesn't Youxin Ye offer a cheaper price for the work?

In any case, I would guess $500 if the rest of the camera was simply magnificent.
$400 if just average.

That shutter hole is a showstopper.

Youxin used to be very reasonable-- you can give him a call,
I know some others' prices are more and some very high, just below Leica Factory--

I took a IIIc to the Factory in Germany years ago, the guy who did the SM Leicas had retired, but they sent them to him, but no quotes-- you just paid what he charged.

As I recall, the shutter repair/cla was not that much more than a cla, but I think Don Goldberg may have some original curtains if you want that.

I think I should hi-jack the thread cause my M2 got an issue with shutter speed.
I just got it CLA'd in a local shop here. In general I am quite pleased with the result in terms of price and quality. In the past, I sent a M3 for CLA in Youxin Ye so I can take it as a reference.

Here's issue: all the shutter speeds seem working fine EXCEPT 1/8 is way too fast ( I guess at least from 1/60 above). I called to the repairman and he said that's normal and cannot be adjusted anymore because it would harm the other speeds if trying to fix it.

My question is: is he right? Can my M2 be fixed for that issue or I have to live with it. It's not a big problem for me but just in case it can be fixed easily.

The slow speeds on Leica operate on a separate mechanism so how can this affect all other speeds. Many people mess with speed adjustment and shutter curtain tension to correct speeds. From my experience this is seldom necessary and what is usually needed is a good degrease and relube and the speeds are ok again. Sounds to me like there is some grime in the slow speed mechanism that needs cleaning out.

Thank you, now I knew it's unnecessary to get it fixed, just live with it.
