Flare?

Got back my first roll from the IVSB. Most look good enough, but aren't anything too special - just trying it out in different conditions to make sure all was working. However, these two have me stumped. I'm not sure what caused the wierd red on the images. Flare? It's only on these two, the rest of the roll, including other bright sunny outside shots are fine. Could this just be an odd refraction through the auto window glass?

Anybody got an idea?

Thanks,

William

Looks like a light leak to me. Not flare at all. I bet these are either the start or the end of the roll. The source of the leak could be many possibilities...

First two shots on the roll. Any ideas where the leak might have been?

If it's the first two shots, then I think your camera is a very weak candidate; or, in other words, it's very unlikely your camera is at fault. You probably had the film out at some point, either prior to or after loading, out in the sun, perhaps strong enough for some to have leaked through the film slot.

Not impossible, but not quite ordinary, unless the canister had its felt played/fiddled with, or, maybe, just maybe, if you bulk load your own film, maybe the felt on your canister's slot is not as light-tight, and it may be time to dispose of it. Did you bulk load this roll, or did you use a "generic" roll of film?

Not bulk, but it was cheap Walgreens/Agfa 400 film so a bad light trap is certainly a possiblity. Being the first roll I loaded into a bottom loader, it did take me quite a bit of futzing to get it in there so perhaps that's when it happened. I'll be picking up the second roll (Ektachrome 400) later today, so I'll look at it for anything similar.

Ok, it all makes a bit more sense to me now.

Thanks!

Looks like a light leak, perhaps the processing lab. Check the sprockets as well to see if the leak extends across the entire negative.

Yes it is into the sprockets on the neg. I also recall the woman who does all my processing at the local walgreens (dev only & a cd) commented on how she had trouble with the leader tearing off on her. That was probably the first time she ever had to deal with a long leica leader and may well have been the problem.
