Hi, just checking out some old subscriptions and I thought it would be helpful to post a few pictures taken with the metz flash I discusses above. I really like this flash on the RD-1. I feel confident with it on that I will be able to get the photo I wanted, not something I'm used to feeling with flash and my rangefinders.

I am happy with a Metz Mecablitz 32 Z-2, although it could be a little bit smaller.

Here's another vote for the Leica sf-20, now quite cheap and more versatile than I'd imagined until I began experimenting. For example, with the flat-folding little diffuser from LeicaGoodies (the Sfill, I believe it's called), you get nice effects with practically no extra weight (and the flash itself weighs only ounces).
Besides using this on my film rf cameras, I have also just tried it with the Lumix G1 and it works like a charm without damage to the camera. My best results thus far come when I the flash to A, match the aperture of the flash to that of the camera, and then jack up the flash's iso setting by quite a bit -- eg., G1 @ iso 200 vs. sf-20 iso @ 800. Not sure how consistent this will be under all conditions, but I will keep tinkering if necessary. .

I was lucky enough to have a Metz 48 AF-1 Nikon TTL. for my D2x. Works a treat in manual mode. 1/1 to 1/64 strength. Can manually get it to zoom for wide-angle use, bounces both vertically and horizontally and has a diffuser bulit in. Fire a couple of test shots to adjust the strength and off you go.
