Flash and wireless trigger for M9.

Hi everyone, I'm looking for cost effective but reliable suggestions for a pair of flashguns and a wireless remote trigger compatible with the M9.

I don't need a crapload of features but I need those flashes to be able to be set manually in power, consistent, and no fuss with triggers.

Thanks all!

And oh, I'd prefer a more modern one since finding older versions of flashes where I live is hard.

I don't have an M9, but I use on many cameras from DSLR to IIIf the Paul Buff trigger. I think I paid $135 for the transmitter and the receiver. I use old Minolta 320x flash units ($25-30). They have three auto settings and manual with 1/16 to full power setting. If I use two or more flashed I use a slave trigger which always work. These are they:

I mostly use a Sekonic 308s flash meter but with the digital this isn't necessary, just look at the feedback screen.

Any new flash will work, but I would try to get power and manual power control over features. Vivitar makes some sensible strobes.

I second the recommendation. I use a Buff Cybersync CST on my M9 that triggers either a Canon 580EX2 or my White Lightning xl1600. No problems so far. My hotshoe died on my R-D1 a few years ago and I've been missing this setup. I'm really pleased with the results of the 50mm ASPH summilux on the M9:

I've always used pocketwizards with a few old Nikon Sb25s and 24s cheap and have a pc socket.

PaulN, I should say something about the artificially light photos you posted. Of course, excellent, but they also show the potential of flash photography with a RF camera. I have been doing it (with an RF camera) for 50 years and still see the beauty of both artificial light and ambient/natural light. Well done Paul.

Whilst in the past I considered purchasing Microsynch :

........... I have no experience of Microsynchs in use, but their obvious advantage for rangefinder camera work is their tiny size. A lot of radio triggers seem excessively large. Maybe worth considering?

I use a pair of Yongnuo RF-602 triggers and find they're very reliable and excellent value for the money.

I think they are the easiest option for radio triggers. Same company also makes nice flashes for cheap, readily available on the bay!

I use the new Pocket Wizard Flex TT5s with Canon Speedlights all the time. I set the TT5s to have a "manual" setting so it is strictly a trigger.

Normal pocket wizards are cheap on ebay and work great, but they often need an accessory to work with certain hotshoe based flashes.

I can also trigger other lights with the Pocket Wizards, including all pro strobes.

The Cybersyncs from Paul Buff are great too. The Profoto Air system is great. I personally really enjoy using that, but that is limited to those as well.

Radio Poppers are pretty popular as well. They attachment is sometimes bulky on flashes though.

I love using the M8 with strobes. I interchanged between cameras on set some times. The TT5 pocket wizards let me change channel on the fly to go from a manual setting to a Canon setting so that is personally my choice.
