Flash Cards Advise

I am taking delivery of my new RD-1s tomorrow and need advise for cards. What is the consensus regarding the best card for this camera and what is the max size card it will accept?

I don't know if you'll find a consensus, so here's my tuppence...

I use a lexar 80x and a sandisk, never had a problem.

I find a 1GB card matches the battery capacity quite nicely; you can change card and battery at the same time.

I've been using the regular blue sandisk 1GB cards. They seem to work well, and the price online can be very good. I'm not sure if the "ultra" versions that sandisk sell are worth the added price.

the blue 512mb cards were onsale at wallgreens for $12.99 yesterday. May be a good way to pick some u

I have used 512mb Sandisk Ultra II and now two 1GB Lexar x133, both are fine with perhaps a smigen of extra speed of writing to card in Raw with the Lexar's. I think any well known brand should be reliable, just keep away from the very cheap cards, my experience with compact flash versions is they always give trouble at some point.

If you shoot Raw I agree with Phil that a 1Gb matches fairly well with the battery life.

I'll chime in as well. I use the Extreme III and find the 1GB size works well. I shoot in raw and like the speed of the card alot!

BTW, pick up a couple of extra batteries too

I love the Sandisk Ultra II 2.0 GB

fast, reliable, and with Raw + Jpeg probably 200 photos

Also a portable harddrive is always a good idea

I have a 20gb Fotochute which rocks big time

and a Western Digital 40 gb passport

So when I am out at an event I once I fill up one card I can pop it in my card reader attach to my Fotochute and let it download while I fill up the next card ... works great especially at weddings

As others have said you get about 100 per Gig, so if you shoot Raw on the trip that would only give you 600 photos for the trip, not many. I personally do not like to delete any using the camera LCD unless very obvious technical failures, prefering to wait until I see them on the computer (just like waiting till the film was processed ), so I think you will need an additional storage device or Laptop PC.

If you don't need/want to review as you go I can recommend the Jobo Giga One that I have been using as its holds 40 GB, is simple to use 'on the run', is relatively cheap, light and reliable. £95 in the U.K. about $180.
