Recently lost one of the nylon flash socket plugs from the rear of my M2, it was a bit worn and misshapen, I suppose it got caught on my clothing. I have no idea if these things are readily available, or how much they cost - so I made a couple of metal ones, the spring clips are still in the sockets so these will definately not drop out easily!. I turned the two in the pictures from brass, but think I will do some more in alloy - so if anyone can use these?.....PM
Cheers, Dave.
ps - they could easily be painted.

I found that certain shapes in lego bricks make good covers for things. I've got a "headlight" lego piece covering one of my sockets on my oly digital. Only because I kept getting zapped by it if I accidentally had my finger over the plug.

Though I only pickup the digital now to use it (cheat) to compare what it's auto meter readings are compared to what I've been manually selecting on my 35mm cameras. I'd say I'm right 90% of the time.

And do you do screw-cutting? 🙂🙂
Roland, - it's only a small bench- lathe ( three & half inch centre height ), but plenty big enough for my model work, now I'm retired!.....Stewart - yes I cut threads on it, - 'square', 'acme', 'multi-start' ( occasionally!- PITA! ) metric, and imperial. I like messing around on the miller best though! - when the wife has not got too many jobs for me! 🙁
Dave.

Forget the plugs! You don't need them. If you get the camera worked on have the X-synch socket on your M2 or M3 changd to an M4 style. It'll then work with a standard PC cord without an adapter.

True...I don't need them! - never use flash on the M2, or much else, for that matter!, the digi cam or slr is for those odd occasions!. Made the plugs simply to keep out dust and fluff, and for appearance sake! - don't think I would pay some of the silly prices that are asked for this type of gadget, or the conversion!. The M2 was serviced before I got it - last year, and smooth as silk!, so will hopefully outlast me! - BTW, never had a CLA on a camera, in forty five years! 🙂
Dave.

The closest I came to a CLA was when I needed a new main prism in my button rewind M2 (I'd dropped it) close to 40 years ago, and I got the sockets changed to M4 style while it was already disassembled. Leicas don't really EVER need a CLA as long as you just keep using them. Stick it on a shelf for a dozen years sitting unused and it'll probably need one.

I never noticed I was missing one of these, until you pointed them out. ;-).

Are they really $6 for EACH one? Come on!

Ha ha hah... you own a Leica and get riled up at the thought of spending 6 bucks on a plug to keep it clean?? 😀 A roll of film costs more than that!

I made tools for plastic injection-moulding machines, and it's just that when you watch tiny componants dropping out of 'em - by the dozen, every two minutes, 24/7 you wonder why they cost what they do! 🙂
