I just bought a leica IIc. Previous owner had a flash sync installed on the front dial.

Is it possible to remove this?

I can't see your picture, but most things can be removed - I have done it on a II. You just need to make sure that the body is ligh tight once you have finished.

I think the previous owner chose a great spot for a sync. Why not try getting one of those tiny flashes that uses flashbulbs with the fold out silver reflector? It should have a chart on it with setting for ISO 100 and 400 at different distances - just use 1/50th of a second.

I guess my question would be why would you want to? Do you never, ever, want to take photos at night, or use fill flash in the daytime?

As to the flip up flashes, I have several and like them very much. I think there is a quality to light from bulbs and their reflectors that you don't get with electronic flash, and some times that is what I want. You do have to be careful of the shutter speed of course, as was mentioned above.
