I saw the posting on p.net and it seemed to be a turn-off as far as I am concerned.
PNet turns me off all the time. Whenever I think they cleaned up their act, wham, their Grumpy Old Men with a compensation attitude (or as I call it, pontificata aguditis) creeps up.

Yes, it's nice to chat it up once in a while. We even get questions about undecisive purchase dilemmas with hundreds of advice which get ignored in the end!

So, how 'bout that local football team? 😉

A big part of RF photography is being able to look through the viewfinder and see what's going on outside the frame. We're not as focussed as SLR folks. Likewise, chatting is what goes on outside the "frame" of our "serious" photographic discussions. Hence, it is an invaluable part of RFF.
Excellent analogy Rafael!! 😎

I got hooked on RFF by the manner and manners of the people here when I was lurking a couple years ago. By the same token I had been to other forums and did NOT appreciate the smugness and elitist attitudes. Instead of answering your queries they insulted and derided and I couln't be part of those groups. So glad that most here have MANNERS.

Well, I'm a bit late to this party, so who needs another round?
I think of it this way, Frank: This RF camera hobby of mine isreally hard to talk about with my local "in person" friends. And a good number of the folks around here have been happy(willing?) to answer my desire to blab about the different parts of that hobby. And this isn't a formal debate so, I think, following the conversation where ever it may lead is a big part of the fun of RFF. For me anyway. And, I actually do try to stay on topic. I do, however, have a pretty broad idea of just what is included in that.
