flickr and picasaweb

I typically use Google for everything (mail, search etc), so naturally I started posting my scans to their picasaweb. However, I then noticed that their jpeg compression seems inferior to flickr's; even if you upload without resizing, pictures are compressed before being served to the client browser, and the result in picasaweb seems inferior.

the same image was uploaded (without resizing in uploader). Is it just my perception, or do other users experience this?

It prompted me to switch to flickr as a means of showing my photos. I still use picasaweb for family snaphots, because it is not easy to migrate.

I agree, it's too bad, but these sites must have memories the size of some egos.

When you upload to Picasaweb it gives you the option of resizing everything down. Do you do that or upload your full size images?

No, as I said, the picture was not resized; uploaded as-is to both sites via web interface. I do not use any uploading software.

i think you can resize the image, then upload to picasa or flikr.

FLIKR seems to take forever to upload for me, 100 ppi 400x600 image is 5 minutes.
I gave up. I even resorted to their help line and they said it was my service provider, yet I upload to other places without a problem.

I never paid for my pro account after the 1 year trial.

I don't have any problem uploading to my Flickr Pro account, and my cable speed was 'limited' recently by Comcast when I called to complain about a recent price hike (doubled). I managed to get the price back down, but the speed is like molasses now. Can't even watch a Youtube video without it pausing sometimes. But I can upload to Flickr just fine. So I guess it's different for different people.

It's not about service to the consumer. It's money first, then a few other corporate details and at the bottom of the list is consumer service.
