flickr etiquette ?

Generally, if someone comments on a photo, I'll respond, at least to thank them. If someone favorites a photo, though, I don't usually say anything.

When some one marks a number of my photos as a favorite I thanks them for it. Comment get always a reply, not always personal, but a reply is made. 🙂

So far, I have visited the photostream of everyone that has favorited an image of mine (or commented) and tried to find something to comment on. As my work starts getting better, this could become hard to maintain...

If someone favorites one of my photos I'll follow the link to their photostream out of curiosity, but if they make a comment I'll reply/say thank you.

I get too many visits but I always want to return the favor when someone comments or favors one of my pics. I keep forgetting too though.

I respond if someone makes an interesting comment, asks a question, if I know the person, etc. I don't normally respond when a photo is made a favorite.

If someone makes me a Contact, I see whether I like their work. If I like their work, I make them a contact as well.

A Favourite is a nice acknowledgement, but I don't do anything otherwise. I look through their stream sometimes and see if there is anything I like, and Favourite it.

Same with comments. When I get a comment I almost always say thank you, and comment back, and sometimes make a comment or two on their work.

If they ask a question or make a comment on technique that invites an answer or comment in return its good manners to respond. Otherwise I usually do not. But I will check out their work and if its a style I like I will make them a contact.

+1. The same as I do. Also, it is close to impossible to follow up all comments / favs ... 😱

am pressing Favorite button only when really liking the photo, and dont want to miss it. never heard that one should be obliged to comment also when doing this.

If it's from someone who isn't a contact or a friend, I tend to have a quick look at their photostream but it's unusual to reciprocate unless I genuinely like their work. I must admit that I'm not on Flickr for plaudits and approbation nor do I find many of the "Group" topics particularly helpful. Aside from somewhere to post images and keep in touch with a few contacts, I'm not really a big fan of Flickr.

I don't have too many visitors so most of the times when someone faves I check out their stream, if I like what they do I'll leave a comment.
If they become a regular, and if I also like their work I'll comment regularly. I don't bother with people who never answer questions, emails or comments

I don't. Etiquette aside, people often favorite a photo just as a bookmark, not because it's actually a favorite (I know I do). Plus there's no way on flickr to directly respond to favoriting, anyway (other than maybe favoriting one of theirs back?).

do you make comment when someone 'favourites' one of your images?

i never have but it struck me that maybe i should be doing so...
