Now that I've figured out how to manage various aspects thanks to some very good advice in another thread, I rather like it.

What are your thoughts and do you think the current effort/incarnation is an improvement?

Reduced functionality is not an improvement

There is no way to see what sets a photo is in.

There is no easy way to see what groups a photo is in besides typing /groups at the end of the URL

There is no longer the ability to put comments on the photo

The only good thing it did was dump the yahoo toolbar at the top

Overall it is a big looser

Keith! which thread? what advice? (not to hijack this thread).

I'm not as pleased with the big image preview version of Flickr - I quite liked the smaller thumbnails that load quicker. I declined the last beta offer, so will be interested to see what changes have been made.

The little square boxes is the "also in" button. That shows what sets the photo is in. And you can comment by hitting the three dot menu. It's pretty simple. There may be other ways to comment too... I haven't explored it much.

I think its an improvement on the last iteration but was still happy with the original layout from a year or two back and never saw the point of changing that. I have not yet used it enough to really say one way or another though and will wait and will reserve my judgment and see how it works in terms of functionality.

I will say that I do not at this time mind the layout in the large slab of screen real estate on the right hand side where a bunch of information on each individual image, contextual information about sets that the image is in and other stuff needed for navigation is provided. But I have a pretty large screen - not sure how this would work with a smaller screen.

For me the main reason I stick with Flickr is that it has functionality that brings people to my images (me to theirs). If I had my own web site I would need to find ways to drive traffic to my site. On Flickr this is more or less done for you and I have not found an image aggregation site that does it better.

I can't figure out how to grab a bbc code, or whatever its called that I used to use to post images here.

Other than that, whatever, it's fine. I don't put a lot of thought into it. Which is a good thing, because they're just going to keep changing it anyway, regardless of whether we like it or not.

There's a symbol, a box with an arrow coming out of the upper right hand corner that is the "share" icon. click it and it'll give you the link or the bb code.

So far, it hasn't crashed on my browser like the last rebuild did. And it seems to function okay. Can't say as I like the layout, and it's definitely NOT faster like they claim it is. Between Flickr, evrything on the Internet being in HD, and Microsoft ending support for XP, I now am awaiting delivery of a new computer so I can keep up with all the crap.

One thing I don't like is the fact that if you select one of the buttons that show, say "Tags", then it removes whatever was displayed there before, like the Set photos. Then I haven't found a way to get it back to the previous view, but I'll keep pushing buttons till I do. That's the part that ticks me off the worst, is the assumptions the designers took in creating the new layout, and no where to go to find out how it all works.

And it's ugly as hell.

You push one of the other buttons; either tags, sets or info. It doesn't go back automatically. What you select stays until you make another selection.

It's alright and won't take that long to adapt.
Only thing I don't like is they remove the ability to add multiple tags from the photo page.

The worst thing they made is the infinite scrolling Photostream page. The rest are still forgiveable.

I assume this is still in the testing phase? Look at all the text on the right - its all the same font and is hard to read. The comments look just like the person's name and if you reply to another person's comments than their name comes up (in the same font of course) as well (it used to appear with their buddy icon instead of their name). It just adds clutter and more hard-to-differentiate text.

I'm liking Ipernity more and more! Its so clean and uncluttered and the pages load fast! Its just like the old Flickr which I used to love.

I think he was asking about placing notes ON the photos, not just regular comments. I think the "Notes" feature is gone. I don't see a way to add them now, and going through a dozen or so of my own photos which used to have Notes, now have none. They're gone.

I despise the infinite scroll! I have yet to find a computer where it does not bog down on or get hung up. And it takes forever if I want to scroll down to some specific location midway down a page. Scroll down, wait.... wait.... wait.... Oh, went too far! Scroll back up, wait.... wait.... Ooops, that's too far that way! Scroll back down, wait.... wait.... Etc. Horrible!

Have been tolerant until now. This present version is a faile for me (for however long it lasts).
I like the black background. Hate (yes hate) the distracting sidebar.
Hopefully the yahoos will sort it out. Too much tinkering at Yahoo.
They should work on some other revenue stream. Messing with Flickr is not making them any new members to sell to advertisers. Wasteful...
