Over the past few weeks some friends have sent me photos of a rare and vibrant flower bloom in Death Valley - a carpet of flowers.. has anyone here been there to photograph this? Care to share some pictures? My friends tell me it's not all that common an event.

Lynn,

The following was from 2005 when Death Valley had 100 yearish record rainfall, opening up poppy's and other wild flowers that had laid dormant for close to a century. The blooming was mostly in the southern end of the valley and Lake Manly afually had 2-4' of water in it

thanks! The pictures my friend sent me show a carpet of yellow flowers, but I can't link them because I don't know where they're hosted (or even if they are online). Quite a beautiful spectacle.

Was out there this past weekend. I was expecting dense flowers covering the ground which wasn't quite the case. There are a lot of flowers, but nothing like the first image filmtwit posted. Haven't processed any of mine yet so don't have anything to share at the moment. Will try to get an image or two up later in the week.

Great images here! Thanks. If it was a rainfall that occures every 100 years, then it was very special indeed. The new "event" seems to be less dramatic.

I was there in the early 1960's when the desert was in bloom. Don't remember taking pictures, but I'm sure I did. I know I took pictures at Scotty's Castle. Seems somewhere out there there they put on a display called "Fifty Fabulous Weeds" or something like that. I'd recommend anyone go if they get a chance.
