Ok guys
taking the first sunny sunday we had this month here, after lunch I decided to go to the Apennin in a place where I had never been, around 45 miles from home (mostly curves and mountain roads). I already knew part of it so I went straight to the town, taking note of just a couple of places to shoot when I would have returned home.

By the way, my gear was the FM3a, a kit of AIS lenses and the Velvia 100 / 50. Luckily for me, weather forecast was wrong and I had a very clear blue sky on me. For those (eventually) visiting my area, you have to know that on the apennin there are often little lakes and lost burgs and houses are built with stones, very differently from what we are used to see (concrete or bricks). It's a typical thing of that area and they always look "antique" and nice to look at even if they are new inside.

However, the first stop was so-so, and the only thing I really appreciated was what I call the "mountain air" with wood, musk, coffee and other things you can easily smell and enjoy. Then I asked where was the closest lake that I could have been able to reach by car and they told me "The closest is at 20 minutes by car" so I took my things and went. At that time, I had around half roll or 2/3 at most of Velvia already shot and thought to finish at the lake. Differently from digital, I tend to shoot less when I use film.

A few minutes - really - before arriving to that place, I was FORCED to stop the car and leave it. A little herd of 15-20 horses FREE was grazing quietly all around the road, adults, ponies and mares. It was really kind of weird moment (but magic as well): me alone there in the green, lost in the mountains, with all those animals coming to sniff me and my car. Part were grazing, part were relaxing on the surrounding meadows, mothers with their ponies and there was a black one, I guess the leader of the herd, who continued to fix me and see if I did something wrong, but I didn't.
By chance, I had with me some spare sugar I keep for my diet and I could give them some. I remained there I guess half and hour or so, then they decided to come back home (they belonged to someone, at least they all had their cowbell around the neck) and I finally managed to arrive to the lake. Overall, I think I shot almost 20/30 slides in two rolls. I tried also to frame while the horses were lapping my hand for the sugar but I'm not sure what will come out 😀 😀 😀 One even stomped my foot (kind of him!

) but who cares ! A third was interested more to my FM3A and its neckstrap than sugar !

Then, the lake, in the end was nothing to report about, aside the nice road to arrive there, all in the woods (around 1000 m / 3300 ft o.s.l) I did take a trip around it (it was harder than expected also because I wasn't equipped for this) and then I came back a bit hungry and sweaty to my car and came back home, stopping at the first tavern to drink some home-made lemonade with my sugar and reset a bit. I took some other shots while coming back home but really I spent a very unique moment and I wanted to share with you. As soon as I'll have my slides back, I'll scan some of them and show you here.

Thanks for reading !

Hope to see the pictures as soon as you have them ready.

PS : some more details about the place, probably not so far from where I live...grazie, ciao

Ciao Robert
if you want to look for it over google maps, I was in the high parmense apennin, going from Monchio delle Corti (a very small village) to the Lago Ballano, coming up from Langhirano (Parma) to go to Tuscany / Aulla through the Lagastrello pass.
