FOBA Baby FOBA

Today I visited a buddy of mine, who saved an enlarger from FOBA closing factory...
To my pleasure he told me that he finally could get the entrance logo from the factory.
After a deep clean he showed me the iconic letters...

Here lay on my feet what was once over the entrance of this great factory...

'OAF BAG'?

I am also a bit in calligraphy and I always have an eye for fonts.
I am still looking for THE font used by FOBA... but I found today this one which come very close

I broke two circular metal taps, while threading the Aluminum Hockey Pucks, but now all the work is completed. I have four usuable FOBA Bases plus the more Modern Black One. I bought 13" 19" and 23" Goosenecks cheaply on Amazon. The thread on one end is 3/8" and the other is 1/4, so they work with my Manfrotto Clamps, and the base at the other end. The new goosenecks match pretty good with the Older Firolite Fiber Optic Cables. Still waiting for one more Manfrotto Clamp. And mayve I order a few more for spares.

I ran out of luck...😣😖🥺

In the process cleaning the loupe I broke the weakest part... the rubber hood...
After more than 50 years it was already brittle with a lot of cracks but still one piece...
Now the crack is through the entire ring... perhaps a cable tie can help?

Any ideas? Are there any replacement for such a old part?

A wide, strong rubber band of the right size might work and not look too out of place.

4x5 100TMX Kelly Lighting Impaflex 60 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Broncolor Balloon 90 degrees camera left, softly filling the whole set. Camera left 45 degrees is a Broncolor Impaflex 60 Softbox, one stop brighter than the fill light. Finally a 4x6 foamcore Fill Panel, just out of the camera, so very close in. 4x5 Kodak TMax Instant Preloaded, in a Polaroid 545 Film Holder. Plaubel Makiflex with Graphic Film Back. Film was rated at EI 50. This is my Go-To Portrait Lighting, for a classic look.

This week I found a few more FOBA clamps for my kit, care of of the classifieds sites.

The two COKLI clamps are really useful to me when using fill cards as you can quickly adjust angle and position and then lock them in place easily.

I have about twelve or so of these. I want to drill out the ends on all of them, then in some way attach them to my flexible Goosenecks and Articulated Arms. They have 1/4" female connections, which work really well with Manfrotto Clamps. Need something similar with these, I'll figure out something. These are steel but a metal bit and drill press do the job nicely.

I like you use the Ballon as a filling light! 👍

why not using these? Perhaps to fit it nicely you need to remove the ridge on a lathe and then drill a threaded hole...?!

Here a quick and dirty try, using a cable tie... 🤓
not the strongest but for light stuff it should work.

New Goosenecks FOBA Clamps Pro Gaff by Nokton48, on Flickr

This is my "MacGyver". LOL

FOBA Clamps attached to Amazon 13" Goosenecks FOBA Bases. Held together with multiple strips of Pro Gaffer from B&H, these neatly screw on and off. This will hold for a while. Lots of things I can do with these clips. Great for holding reflective cards, like mirror, soft, or black for subtracting light. All made from Art Board from local Art Supply store. Just bought five 6 inch Goosenecks. All this stuff goes into it's own plastic box labeled so I can find it.

That'll do the trick!

I use 5mm foam-core board for most of my fill cards and cutters, and am currently going though a mini drama with a shop in Berlin I ordered some larger pieces from last week that that arrived damaged. In their eagerness to protect the replacements they then sent, they wrapped them too tightly in bubble-wrapped, and they arrived bowed this time, rather than perfectly flat as the manufacturer markets them as.
Hopefully they can get it right the third time as I wanna start using them, it's a quality board.
