reading through the threads, i find myself wondering if a difference exists between a given focal length lens for an SLR and Leica M. i have current preference for SLR 105mm, and a 28mm. i can use a 35mm, but a 50mm fails to spark my interests. i'm trying to think how this current preference in SLR lens use might affect lens choice for Leica M. I'm tending to think i'd like a 28mm rather than a 35mm, and perhaps even wider.
i enjoy shooting architecture with skylines, landscapes, and might use both 28mm and 105mm on the same site
any ideas?/suggestions?

A 35 mm lens shows the same angle of view on an SLR and a rangefinder.

However, most rangefinder users tend to use their lenses closer to the action, so sometimes 50 mm puts too much distance between you and the subject.

I shoot architecture with a 24mm f2.8. Wide angle lenses seem to get pricey. All the older cameras came with 50mm or were the most common. Way back when...the thing was to shoot with telephoto and then zoom lenses for slrs. Shooting styles change. Older wide angle lenses are difficult to come by and the shades and filters are also hard to find. The CV lenses for rangefinders have been a boon. The 85mm and 105mm are very nice portrait lenses. The 105mm will give a very different perspective than the 24mm. It will compress the crowds and skyline/bldings making it look more crowded that it really was/is at the time. If you can't get close to a small building that is on a hil or in the distance a 105mm could be the lens to frame it nicely. On the other hand when you have a massive structure on the street the 24mm will give a larger view. Here's another way it was explained to me: 85mm one person, 50mm 2 people, 35mm three people.
